The landscape changed for 457 visa sponsors on 14 September 2009, with significant legislative changes coming into effect in relation to 457 sponsor's obligations. Despite the importance of these changes, it appears - two years on - that many sponsors are not recognising or meeting the new obligations. Nor are they aware of the legal penalties and reputational ramifications that can flow from a breach. Emma Mackey examines some of these obligations, points out common pitfalls in 457 sponsor compliance and makes recommendations for managing the risks involved in being a 457 sponsor.
